Found Haiku? What?
A few weeks ago I had lunch with an old friend who asked a simple question, "How are you feeding your creative self these days?" The truth was, while I was taking an online writing class and had developed a routine of sorts, I wasn't completely satisfied. Around the same time I read Max's Words by Kate Banks and an idea started to percolate. I spent last spring working on a book of haikus celebrating the beach and I enjoyed the simpleness of being able to tell a story in 17 syllables so I decided to write haikus using words I cut out from catalogs, magazines, etc. My very modest goal is one a week. The time I previously spent trying to write memoir is now spent culling through other people's words to use as my own.
